The new president of Long Sutton & District Civic Society Francis Pryor has published a number of books.
The book that came out a week or so ago, Home: A Time Traveller’s Tales, looks at how family life began in Britain 10,000 years ago and how it developed.
His latest book though, The Lifers’ Club, is a complete departure: a detective thriller set in a Fenland dig.
While doing what he can to support the civic society, Francis says he has no pet projects he wants to pursue. He feels that’s best left to the members who have the experience of the heritage in the town and the surrounding district.
Chairman Tim Machin has plenty of ideas about that, such as getting the community involved in a piece of communal art work to improve the Common Pit, campaigning over empty buildings and celebrating VE day in some way next year.
He said: “Civic societies are a bit about community leadership and a bit about community ownership of a place. It’s how you make places work better.
“Part of our role is how we enhance community life in our part of rural Lincolnshire.”
