Little treasures at a Spalding primary school had a swashbuckling time during a pirate-themed day.

The event was held at Monkshouse Primary School to mark the handing out of Bookstart treasure bags to the three and four-year-olds in the nursery class.

The team from Bookstart – a national scheme to encourage a love of books among young children – went along to share stories, songs and poems – and took along a very special guest, Bookstart Bear, to give out the bags of books and other booty.

The children also took part in a hunt for lost treasure and tucked into a snack of an old pirate favourite – popcorn.

Teacher Nicky Clarke said: “They all had great fun and it was a lovely day.”
