LINCOLNSHIRE Co-op staff were in at the start of a charity relay carrying a special flag 425 miles between the county’s 75 Co-op Foodstores.

They could choose their own means of getting there as long as it wasn’t motor transport and there have been weird and wonderful selections including skipping, hula-hooping, roller-skating and trolley pushing.

The team from Wygate Park Co-op, dressed as bees, buzzed along on bikes to complete the eight-mile leg of the relay from their base in Spalding to Gosberton. And Long Sutton staff cycled their 7.5-mile trip to Whaplode the same day,

A horse and cart carried their colleagues from Gosberton the 11.5 miles to Boston the following day.

Money raised will go to Co-op’s charities for 2012, Plan UK’s project in Rwanda helping young people set up businesses, and Pascal, a co-operative of Age UK which delivers services to more than 4,000 elderly people a week.
