We should be on same side
IN a recent report in the Lincolnshire Free Press I was pleased to see council leader Gary Porter getting on board and embracing the initiative of not accepting an increase of 4.6 per cent in allowances that has been recommended by the Independent Remuneration Panel for 2009/2010.
It is also good to see the whole committee follow Mr Porter’s initiative as we are still in tough times because of the current economic climate.
It is all very well Mr Porter thinking councillors deserve more pay for what they do but more and more people are accepting pay freezes and, like myself, finding a shorter working week very painful.
Mortgages and bills still have to be paid and there does not seem to be a lot of help for people who are trying their best to help companies stay in business and retain the jobs that they provide.
In times like this we should all be on the same side by planning for our children’s future and making sure we make the right decisions for a long term recovery.
Let us hope the council can be even more prudent on behalf of the taxpayer and deliver its promise of keeping the council tax bills low or even freezing themfor next year.
