We must listen to young people

It is with anger that I respond to the article in the Spalding Guardian, "Young 'vandals' risk losing Castle BMX track".

Along with many other responsible, forward thinking parents, I encourage my children to be independent, to enjoy new experiences and manage risk for themselves.

If they are not listened to and not provided for in the community they are going to take matters into their own hands aren't they?

I appreciate that whosoever improved the track should not have done so without going through the correct channels but I think they may previously have tried and failed.

Mr Matson, how out of touch are you when you say "it would be a shame to lose it because of a minority". They are that minority who have now made the track how they want it.

Do you see queues of people waiting to complain about the way the track now looks and how unsuitable it is?

Perhaps if the council bothered to find out how the riders would like to see their track, the 1500 (which, let's face, it is not a great sum of money) could be put to very good use to provide a much needed and updated facility.

My children are not able to go to Peterborough every day after school and why should they?

We already, along with other local parents, run a shuttle service to King's Lynn, Corby and Skegness because Spalding is so poorly equipped to meet the needs of its young people.

Get with it and listen. At the end of the day you are there to provide a service. Do you want this "thrill-seeking" to take place on the streets?

Then contain it and provide something fit.
