Support current businesses before inviting more
REGARDING the article “Bye-bye to Sir Halley Field?”
What a brilliant idea! Let’s build more shops, get rid of one of the few areas of green, and put the remaining town centre shops out of business.
I seem to remember being told that Springfields would attract “big name” chains and help the town.
Do we really need another large supermarket or DIY store?
Look around the lovely centre of this market town. Our council should be working to regenerate what we have already and remember the Red Lion Quarter fiasco.
As shoppers we should support those businesses that are left or we will end up with a ghost town.

Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 09:25 PMThis is what will stop this town from moving forward. In another 50 years time what will our children be saying? History, culture and heritage are all out there to be found if you are prepared to look. At the end of the day if retail chains wanted to come to Spalding town, they would be, they aren't. This new development has the potential to keep money in the town that is being spent at Boston, Peterborough or Kings Lynn. A better green site created for public use, something the Sir Halley isn't, if delivered, sounds like something which will attract visitors along with an improved sports facility.

Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 10:43 PMGood point !!!! i agree whole heartedly.. the town needs to get back to its roots and attract visitors as well as shoppers into the town. There is too much new build around the town.. i often when going into town look for the old buildings that where here during the 1960s and 70s ..sadly there is not many left.. they are long gone and so is the towns history, culture and its heritage ..thanks Mr or Mrs South Holland District Council .. for carin so much about our town and the traders that support it !!!!
