Money is tight for electorate

Re: MP's expenses highest in the county (Lincolnshire Free Press, April 7).

Mr Hayes said that his wages as an MP were 61,000 per year and this figure was used by your latest correspondent Mr French (Lincolnshire Free Press, April 21).

Mr Hayes no doubt knows by now that current wages for the job stand at 64,700pa – almost four times that earned annually by the average local factory worker.

By the way, hard working MPs this year will enjoy an 82-day summer recess.

At least they will have some money to fund their holidays, unlike many of their electorate – plenty of whom have lost their jobs or had their wages frozen.

Editor's note: MPs were awarded a pay rise from April 1, taking their salary to about 64,766.
