Health drive a great success

On behalf of the Rotary Organisation and the Stroke Association, I would like to thank the Spalding Guardian for the splendid publicity we received through your pages for the Stroke Awareness Day held on April 18.

At several venues throughout south Lincolnshire the various Rotary Clubs arranged for people to have free blood pressure tests which could alert them to their possible risk of stroke.

The campaign was very successful again this year.

The tests for residents of Spalding were offered at Springfields Outlet Shopping Centre again this year.

Numbers of people tested were a little down on last year but we think we achieved our aim of spreading the message further afield.

There was certainly a lot of interest from shoppers.

The importance of the event is born out in the figures. Some 201 people were tested, of whom 44 were identified as having clinically raised blood pressure.

Many of these were unaware of the potential risk they suffered and were therefore given appropriate advice from the medical team present and advised on follow-up action.

Four of those people identified as needing follow-up action were urgent referrals.
