Wind turbine will be first of its kind in area
Foundations for a wind turbine at the Long Sutton Carbon Neutral Business Zone (CaNeBuZo) are being laid.
Good progress is being made on SEArch Architects' eco-friendly business campus in Gedney Road, which will be the largest earth sheltered development of its type in Europe, with each unit designed to reduce businesses' reliance on fossil fuels.
The buildings' distinctive curved walls have presented a challenge for builders but they are now taking shape with the first of the five units projected to be finished by around October.
The site will feature the first vertical axis wind turbine to be built in the East of England, which should be installed by the end of next month.
SEArch owner Jerry Harrall said that a lot of interest has been shown in the campus from local businesses and those from outside the area.
This has been aided by the international exposure SEArch's developments have received at recent United Nations and Commonwealth conferences in Scotland and London respectively.
Dr Harrall said: "We have had a lot of interest and what we are hoping is that we will see one or two local businesses expanding and relocating to the site as well as bringing in some new businesses from outside the area.
"We have been working to promote Long Sutton and the surrounding area so that it becomes known for its commitment to environmentally sound building."
Those interested in the business units should contact SEArch on 01406 364646.
