Views are sought on electoral changes

PEOPLE are being asked for their input into a review of the electoral arrangements for Boston Borough Council.

The independent Local Government Boundary Commission for England is proposing that the council should have 30 councillors in future – two less than at present – and now needs information from people and groups across the area to help it to map out a new pattern of wards for the borough.

The commission is carrying out the review to deliver electoral equality for voters in local elections and to make sure each borough councillor represents approximately the same number of people.

Commission chairman Max Caller said: “The purpose of our review is to try to ensure that each councillor represents around the same number of people. That’s not the case at the moment for Boston Central ward, for example, has 26 per cent fewer electors per councillor than the average in Boston, whereas Kirton ward has 24 per cent more.

“We are asking for information and evidence that will help us understand where the new ward boundaries should be drawn.”

People have until April 9 to submit their views log on to www.lgbce.org.uk for more information.
