Waiting for Video...

Police are investigating what they describe as an “unexplained” death after a man’s body was found on a railway track in Spalding on Saturday.

The body was found on the track near Stepping Stones Bridge, Stepping Stones Lane, just before 8am when officers from both Lincolnshire and British Transport Police responded to reports of a person being seen in the area.

A number of Lincolnshire Free Press readers posted messages about the incident on social media site Facebook soon after police sealed off both entrances to the footbridge.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “Officers were called to the line near to Stepping Stones Lane Bridge following a report of a person being found line side.

“The body of a man was discovered and enquiries are continuing to establish the identity of the man and the circumstances leading up to his death.

“The incident is currently being treated as unexplained and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

A spokesman for Central and South Lincolnshire Coroner’s Office confirmed the man’s family had not yet been informed of the death and further details would be made available today.
