Urgent need for roundabout

A notorious junction in Holbeach may soon be turned into a roundabout after fresh calls to solve the problem.

There are regular tailbacks leading up to Peppermint junction, where the A151 meets the busy A17, and many lorries choose to cut through the town to avoid it, causing congestion in the centre of Holbeach.

There has been interest in building a commercial development next to the junction and plans would include a roundabout as access to the site.

Coun Nick Worth said: "A roundabout is urgently needed for the Peppermint junction. I see it as a major issue that needs to be pushed.

"It would make a huge difference to the amount of traffic in the town centre and I want to see if we can get that progressed as quickly as possible."

He added that the junction has been an issue talked about for some time but hopes that interest in the site will bring action.

He believes that a recent public consultation for the parish plan has created some momentum for change in the town and hopes that the process can have some positive influence on the need for a roundabout.

He said: "We need to keep chasing this so I shall be making a nuisance of myself until it gets to the top of the agenda.

"I am confident that we can find a way of doing it somehow."

Paul Rusted, area highways manager, said: "Lincolnshire Development is involved in a planning proposal which would see the development of county council land next to the A151 link road. Access for the site would be via a leg of a new roundabout funded by the development."
