UPDATE: Robbery at Spalding building society

A man walked off with a "substantial amount" of cash from the Norwich and Peterborough Building Society in Spalding after threatening staff with a gun.

A man walked into the Sheep Market branch at around 5pm on Friday and threatened staff with what appeared to be a gun concealed in a bag.

They handed over the cash and he made off towards the town centre.

The robber is described as 5ft 5in to 5ft 8in tall with a proportionate build and dark complexion. He was wearing a dark hood over a blue beanie hat and a grey/green coat with epaulettes on the shoulders.

Police have this morning issued this CCTV image of the offender in a bid to trace him.

DS Steve Knubley, of Spalding CID, said: "This kind of offence is extremely rare in the Spalding area and the staff who were threatened by the man were shocked but not physically harmed."

He urged anyone in the area between 4.30pm and just after 5pm who may have seen the man to call police on 0300 111 333 with information.
