UPDATE: Armed robbery at McDonald's

A man was threatened with a knife and forced to hand over cash as he locked up McDonald's in the early hours of this morning.

The 21-year-old was securing the Spalding restaurant between 2am and 2.30am when he was approached by two men wearing balaclavas and dark clothing.

They threatened him with a knife and forced him to unlock the premises before escaping with a quantity of cash.

Police believe the men got away over the fields towards Baytree Nurseries Garden Centre in Weston.

The victim was shaken by the ordeal but otherwise uninjured.

Police sealed off the Holbeach Road restaurant, which remained closed this morning while officers searched the area.

DS Steve Knubley, of Spalding CID, said: "This was quite a frightening experience for the McDonald's employee and we are very keen to arrest those responsible.

"I would appeal for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area of the restaurant last night or early this morning to contact us.

"The offenders may have had a vehicle waiting somewhere possibly in the vicinity of Baytree Nurseries."

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact DS Knubley on 0300 1110300.
