TV star's Spalding home up for sale

RAB C Nesbitt star Gregor Fisher is selling his £735,000 Spalding home in the hope of going to France to restore a chateau.

National press reports on the actor's house sale revealed the man who plays scruffy layabout Rab is a hard working, DIY obsessive with a passion for doing up old properties.

Having previously renovated homes, Gregor (56) moved to Spalding two years ago and set to work on the seven-bedroom Georgian property in Double Street.

He said: "We were in Hampshire when we picked up a glossy brochure and saw this place.

"We didn't know where Spalding was, but for us it's always been about the house and not the location.

"We replaced two bathrooms, put in a new kitchen, redecorated and took down a huge diseased beech tree in the garden.

"It is a big house, but it doesn't feel like one. It's very well-proportioned and has a beautiful garden. You wouldn't know you were in the middle of a town."

The actor has his eyes on a new project across the Channel - perhaps renovating a tumbledown chateau or old watermill or building a log cabin from scratch.

Gregor's actress wife Vicki Burton said: "We knew from the moment we walked in that this was the house for us. It seems to open its arms and make everyone feel welcome - it's such an easy house to live in."

Gregor reportedly loves having a shop selling the papers and milk just 30 seconds' walk from his door - and the nearby South Holland Centre showing the same films you get in the West End.

He also enjoys Spalding for its proximity to the A1 and rail journeys to London take just under 90 minutes.

The actor is due to start filming his tenth series of Rab C Nesbitt early next year.

Gregor's property is being marketed by upmarket homes specialists Fine and Country.

Darren Christie, an associate with Fine and Country's Stamford branch, said Gregor loves Spalding.

He continued: "It wasn't a place he always desired to live. He went there because of the house. He has always bought houses for what they look like."

Mr Christie described the actor's home as "beautiful, absolutely beautiful".

Features of the house include three reception rooms, a cellar and double-garage.
