Tributes to man found dead near railway line

Tributes have been paid to a man whose body was found near a railway line in Spalding over the weekend.

The man – named locally as Andrew Lyons (33), from Gosberton – was found near the line by Stepping Stones Bridge at about 8am last Saturday by police and paramedics after reports from residents.

Initial investigations into Mr Lyons’ death, believed to be suicide, meant train services between Spalding and Sleaford were suspended for almost four hours until about 11.50am.

Formal identification and a post-mortem are due to be carried out today but British Transport Police (BTP) are not treating the incident as suspicious.

Mr Lyons was a regular at The Black Swan pub in New Road, Spalding, where landlady Terri Mason described him as a “really lovely guy”.

She said: “Andy would come in once or twice a week for a beer or chat and we knew each other for years.

“He was a sweet guy, very intelligent, very caring and nothing seemed to phase him.

“I had a drink with him on Thursday and he seemed just like Andy, but he wasn’t one to tell you about his problems.

“We all had a drink to remember him by on Sunday because he was a really lovely guy.”

A BTP spokesman said: “The incident is currently being treated as non-suspicious and the man’s family has been informed.”
