Toddler group at risk due to falling numbers

A parent and toddler group at the Reading Rooms in Holbeach fears closure.

A Holbeach parent and toddler group fears it could lose one of its two remaining sessions because of a lack of support.

The group, which meets at the Reading Rooms, has already been forced to drop its Wednesday morning get-together because of a lack of numbers.

Now its organiser Rachael Munson fears the Thursday morning session will go the same way because it regularly only attracts two or three mums and their toddlers.

The Monday session is regularly getting up to ten mums, but the group could fold all together if numbers regularly drop below half a dozen as costs of hiring the hall mean it would become financially unviable.

Rachael said: “I really can’t explain what has happened and why people are not coming along.

“We have discussed it between ourselves and we just don’t know what the problem is.

“We have been trying to come up with different things to do, such as during half term, but it’s hard. We just want to attract new members.

“We are also looking at getting some fancy dress costumes so the adults can dress up to entertain the children, just as a way of making the sessions more fun.

“If we can’t get more people along, particularly on Thursday, I am going to have to take the hard decision to cancel that session too as it’s going the same way as the Wednesday one.”

The group now meets on Monday and Thursday mornings from 9.30am to 11am and the cost is £2 per session for a parent and child, or £2.80 for a parent and two children.

For information call Rachael on 07812 403199.
