PARIS BY PUSHBIKE: Josh Wright hopes conquer London to Paris on two wheels.

A 19-year-old assistant from Deepings Leisure Centre is cycling from London to Paris for Anna’s Hope, the charity for children in East Anglia Angliawith brain tumours.

Josh Wright, from Deeping St James, will cover 400 miles in five days this July with 84 other cyclists taking on the challenge.

His chosen charity, Anna’s Hope, was inspired by Anna Olivia Hughes, who died from a brain tumour aged just three years and eight months old.

Josh said: “When I was at secondary school Carole, Anna’s mum, came in to talk to us about the charity. My cousins knew Anna too. They were in her class at school.

“From then on I did charity events to fundraise for them.”

Josh, who is a member of the lifeguard and skate team at the leisure centre, has taken part in the Great Eastern Run in the past but said this event will be more of a challenge. He said he will have plenty of support as colleagues Claire Cross, Elisha Penman and Kayleigh Adams have also signed up.

They will leave London on July 30 and cycle 80 miles to Dover. They arrive in Calais and it’s back on the bike to Arras. From here they head to Compiègne and finally Paris.

Anna’s Hope was founded by her parents, Rob and Carole, and five godparents.

Josh said: “Brain tumours are the leading cancer killer for children and Anna’s Hope aims to fund rehabilitation care as well as research into a cure.”

So far he has raised around £500 but hopes to more than double it. Josh said his latest fundraising efforts, a charity car wash at Deeping’s Leisure Centre, went well and he wants to repeat the event and is also considering a charity skate session for children.
