Thousands in power cut

Tuesday: Nearly 3,000 homes in Holbeach area were plunged into darkness in two power cuts last night and some had to wait until 5am today to have their supply restored.

Energy company Western Power Distribution say there was an underground fault at 9.30pm which saw 1,700 homes lose power and that triggered a second power cut at 11pm affecting 1,200 properties.

Some 1,250 homes hit by the first power cut had supplies restored within an hour, but many had to wait until the early hours of today and 21 households were without electricity until 5am.

The second power cut lasted just 15 minutes.

Western Power spokesman Michael Clarke said his company re-routed supplies and brought in generator to get households back on.

Engineers are today working in Holbeach to find and repair the underground fault.
