Telephone exchange to be demolished

Spalding's redundant telephone exchange will be demolished after South Holland District Council's cabinet agreed the move yesterday.

Members decided the Gore Lane building should be flattened and a joint development brief be undertaken with Geo Adams & Co, which owns an adjacent brownfield site - currently a car park.

Councillors were told the demolition could cost up to 60,000 and they requested several quotes be sought to remove asbestos in the exchange to make sure the authority does not pay any more than necessary for the work.

No particular uses have been put forward for the development of the site.
