Teenager lost control of car and hit bus
A teenager died after he lost control of his car and veered into the path of a school bus, an inquest heard.
Daniel Westrup (18) was on his way to work at Terry Wright Cycles, Deeping St James, when his red Vauxhall Corsa collided with the bus on November 1.
An inquest heard how Daniel was fighting with the steering wheel to avoid the bus, which was going to Stamford College.
Daniel had stayed at a friend's the night before the accident.
He was driving to collect some work clothes before heading to Terry Wright Cycles.
It is believed the car went out of control when negotiating a bend in the road close to Maxey at 8.30am.
Witness Sasha Hill, of Bretton, Peterborough, said: "I saw a little red car coming towards the bus and it was in our lane.
"He was fighting with the steering wheel, trying to get back into the other lane, but then it crashed into the bus sideways on."
Driver Henry Patterson said there was nothing he could do to avoid the collision and said his mind was on passengers' safety.
He said: "There was a cloud of smoke from the back wheel as if his brakes had locked, which seemed to throw him across to my side of the road, then we both collided.
"I tried to brake but everything happened so quickly.
"I was trying to keep the coach steady.
"I had 30 or 40 children on board."
Daniel, of Will-oughby Drive, Empingham, was taken to hospital but died as a result of his injuries.
Peterborough coroner Gordon Ryall recorded a verdict of accidental death.
