Tasty plans for shopping centre
A spot of retail therapy could soon become a tasty experience with plans for two new eateries at a shopping centre.
The company which manages the Springfields Outlet Shopping Centre in Camelgate, Spalding, has applied to South Holland District Council for permission to create a new cafe and a sandwich bar.
It is hoped the two new food outlets will help meet demand at the centre.
A letter to district planners submitted as part of the application from Ian Sanderson, director of outlets for Chester Properties, said: “We continually monitor customer feedback and try and keep up with visitors needs/desires in a very tough trading environment,
“In an unprompted survey on site 111 customers from a sample size of 540 said they would like to see improved catering.
“The site employs 440 people and the most requested service on site is for sandwiches.”
The new cafe would involve alterations and change of use of Unit 28, currently occupied by Bankrupt Clothing Company to replace the now-closed Marks and Spencer cafe which the chain now uses as a “clearance” section.
Mr Sanderson’s letter says: “This cafe traded successfully at the time it closed.”
Part of Unit 41, which is currently trading as Dragon Carp and fronts Camelgate next to the pub, would be used for the sandwich bar.
It is expected the new eateries would create up to five new jobs.
The application states that during peak times the current cafe and restaurants at the centre are often at, or near capacity.
