Traders are naming the top five improvements they would like to see in Holbeach to help boost the town’s economy.

Better signs, marketing and CCTV are among ideas being aired by Holbeach Business Forum in its 2012 survey covering retail, professional services, leisure, the night time economy and other business categories.

The forum is trying to breathe new life into the town, make it easier for new businesses to set up – and also encourage more businesses to join the forum and take an active part in its meetings and projects.

The survey is being run with help from Spalding and District Area Chamber of Commerce and results will be made public soon.

Chamber officer Harry Drury said parking problems are a big issue facing Holbeach but there may be other issues brought up by the survey that are easier to solve.

He said: “We will continue to support Holbeach Business Forum to form its objectives and assist them in working towards those objectives where possible in an attempt to improve trading conditions within the town and make Holbeach a more attractive place for current businesses, new businesses and their customers.

“We are also trying to encourage any Holbeach business people to come forward if they would like to get involved with the management team within the business forum or would like to become a member.”

The forum chairman currently is David Hudson, of TOTO Shoes, but Mr Drury said the forum was struggling to find a chairman until Mr Hudson put himself forward at a meeting in September.

Mr Hudson said: “We need to get the forum up and running at full strength again and also to get a lot more people involved in it. It needs to be all of the businesses involved and talking as one voice.”
