Support for road safety crackdown in Crowland
About 100 people have signed a petition calling for a crackdown on bad parking and speeding on a Crowland Road.
The petition was launched last month after complaints from residents about vehicles speeding on Thorney Road where a woman was hit by a car on Bonfire Night.
Trace Beech suffered arm, leg and facial injuries when she was struck by a car while walking to collect her son from a youth club in the town.
The petition has been sent to South Holland and The Deepings MP, John Hayes, Lincolnshire Police Chief Constable Neil Rhodes, county highways chiefs and Crowland Parish Council.
A letter with the petition said: “There are a lot of young children who use Thorney Road because they have no other route to go to and from schools and nurseries.
“Nor is there any other route for residents to get to the local health centre which, in itself, is on a very bad curve in the road.
“Cars, vans, motor cycles and indeed lorries come along this road as if they were still on the A16 or on a road with an unrestricted speed limit.”
District councillor Angie Harrison said: “Speeding and parking issues should be dealt with by the police and notices have been mounted on the school railings with regard to parking outside the school.”
