Moulton student Sarah Hemstock has been living her dream as a volunteer Clydesider at The Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Sarah (19) was selected to be one of 15,000 volunteers helping spectator services after being inspired to apply during her visit to the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
She’s been helping out at the lawn bowls, which she says “started out under perfect blue skies and against the magnificent background of the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and University” with many expert bowlers taking part.
Sarah said: “On day two I got to wear ‘the big foam hand’ and direct spectators around the venue and met visitors from New Zealand. Day three I was checking spectator tickets and visitors were from Australia, Namibia and Wales.”
Speaking today (Monday), Sarah said: “I really enjoyed it. It’s definitely something I will remember for the rest of my life.”
The toughest part was the 4am starts, but Sarah is already thinking of applying to Dublin if that city hosts the next games.
