Spalding hall severely damaged in blaze
A meeting place for Jehovah's Witnesses was severely damaged in an arson attack in Spalding on Saturday morning.
Fire crews were called to the Kingdom Hall for Jehovah's Witnesses in Hereward Road at around 9.50am.
Curtains and chairs on the ground floor of the property were severely damaged while the ground and first floors suffered serious smoke damage.
Those inside the building at the time were safely evacuated.
Police have found that windows at the building had been smashed at around 2am on Saturday and believe the offenders returned later on to start the fires.
Once inside, the arsonists created six small fires by setting the chairs, curtains and a number of books alight.
Police and fire crews were alerted to the scene when a pedestrian noticed smoke coming from the roof of the building.
Fire crews put out the blaze soon after arriving.
The ground floor and first floor windows at the front of the building have since been boarded up.
Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue confirmed that the cause of the fire was deliberate.
Police are conducting an investigation.
Witnesses should call police on 01775 722233, quoting incident number 118 of January 10.
