Firefighters from Spalding are among four specialist boat teams from LIncolnshire deployed to Somerset to help with any rescues from flood-hit areas.

The Environment Agency had issued several severe flood warnings, indicating a danger to life, for the region, plus Gloucestershire and Wales.

However, the tidal surge which hit Somerset this morning was not as bad as expected.

Other teams deployed from Lincolnshire include Gainsborough, Boston and the Urban Search and Rescue team.

Members of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) went on strike this morning between 6.30am and 8.30am but the action passed without incident.
