Scouts top tent builders at camp

HOLBEACH and Spalding district scouts showed their winning tent-building skills with seven nights under canvas at Lincolnshire's biggest scout and guide camp.

The scouts were one of many groups representing the UK at the Poacher 2008 International Scout and Guide Camp at Lincoln Showground, in which 3,000 youngsters took part.

They were joint winners in a competition to create a themed entrance to their camp area.

Other activities included climbing, abseiling, mountain biking, roller disco, go-karting, gliding and parascending, plus trips out and a visit from ex-Blue Peter presenter and UK chief scout Peter Duncan.

In March, the Lincolnshire Free Press Children’s Fund, set up to benefit the lives of under-18s in our area, contributed 1,000 towards sending the scouts to the jamboree.

Two leaders from the district – Alan Moore, a cub scout leader from 1st Long Sutton Scout Group, and Explorer Scout Leader Sam Raines – were awarded their Wood Badges, for completing their formal leader training.
