Schools unite for gala concert

Young string players made a rousing sound when they came together at Spalding High School for a gala concert.

Cellists and violinists playing as South Lincs Youth Strings, Spalding Youth Violin Ensemble, Spalding Junior String Orchestra and Spalding Youth Cello Ensemble put countless hours of practice and months of rehearsals to good use.

The evening began with the famous Hornpipe from Handel's Water Music, played by a cello ensemble directed by Glenis Malkin.

Pieces from Mein Herr Marquis (from Die Fledermaus by Strauss), John Lennon's Imagine and novelty and folk pieces were played.

Schools represented were Spalding Primary, Donington Cowley, Edenham Primary, Moulton John Harrox Primary, Pinchbeck East Primary, Long Sutton Primary, Spalding Parish Church of England Day School, Deeping St James Primary, Shepeau Stow Primary, St Norbert's Primary, Bourne Westfield Primary, Spalding Gleed Girls', Spalding High, Spalding Grammar, Bourne Grammar, Robert Manning Technology College and The Deepings School.
