School earns praise for community links

Staff and pupils at Moulton Chapel Primary School are celebrating after receiving a glowing OFSTED report which graded the school as good overall with excellent community links.

Inspector Marina Gough said pupils of all abilities and ages achieve well and make good progress while teaching, leadership and management are also good.

She said: "Pupils' personal development and well-being are good.

"They are very well behaved and considerate towards others.

"Pupils have lots of exercise, which they thoroughly enjoy, and have a clear idea of how to keep safe. Very good opportunities for them to make decisions and to work in teams help to ensure they are prepared for the next stages of their education and working life."

Headteacher Geoff Palmer is thrilled with the report.

He said: "I was delighted to receive such a glowing report. It said we are a very caring school – which is something we aim to be – and it is nice to be recognised for this.

"It's also nice that the inspector recognised that the children do get on together. We also got an outstanding rating for our links with parents, which is testament to the parents as well as the school, as they contribute a lot to its working."

Ms Gough said the school should do the following to improve:

Raise standards in mathematics by providing more opportunities for pupils to use maths in real life contexts.

Ensure all pupils have more opportunities to use computers and other information and communication technology as tools for learning.

Mr Palmer added that work to tackle these areas had already been identified by the school and that work to tackle them is well underway.

The report added: "Pupils love coming to school and thoroughly enjoy their learning and many additional activities that are provided.

"The school functions very well as a community where achievements are celebrated and disappointments and problems are shared."
