Risk of flooding at temporary camp
The site off Centenary Way, Wingland, in Sutton Bridge, was chosen as a temporary stopping place despite the fact it was at the highest risk of flooding.
The highways authority said the location provided a good quality access and service road.
A report to councillors valued the site between 20,000 to 25,000 and said it has access to all the necessary service infrastructure.
The meeting heard that there were concerns from local businesses about the visual impact, but Coun Nick Worth said this could be resolved immediately if the site was placed behind some trees already there.
Head of planning and development Steve Williams said that moving the proposed location of the camp by about ten feet would take it further away from the nearest resident.
Coun Worth described the site as a "cracking" location with good access to the A17 – which is recognised as a traveller's route – and access to amenities.
Concerns raised by Sutton Bridge Town Council that a site there would impact on school and health facilities were found not to be appropriate because the site is for temporary accommodation only.
The total cost of providing a temporary stopping place with ten pitches is estimated at 281,876.
A total of 69 public responses were received in relation to this site.
