Kirkstone House school, Baston Thomas Issitt who rescued a woman from a water filled dyke

Schoolboy Thomas Issitt, 14, is given a top bravery award after risking his life to dive into an icy ditch and rescue a woman.

Thomas, of Weston Hills, received a Royal Humane Society testimonial for pulling the woman to safety after her car slid of the road and landed upside down in a stream in December 2012. Crowland youngster Ellie Coupland, 7, had her long blonde locks chopped off to raise money in memory of her “daddy in heaven”. Ellie, who had been growing her hair specially since November, raised £300 for the hospital which treated her father, Phil, before he died of panceatric cancer, aged 40.
