Rally hailed the best yet

This year's Holbeach Vintage Rally is being hailed as the best yet.

Organisers said that despite showery weather on Saturday, the show was very well attended during the whole weekend.

Attractions included vintage vehicles, pillow fighting organised by Holbeach and District Round Table, egg catching, a traditional fun fair and various demonstrations.

A change of venue saw the rally move to Barrington House Farm in Fen Road.

Committee chairman David Allwood said: "Quite a few people thought it would not work so well moving the venue as it was a little bit further out of town, but it was very good.

"I had lots of people telling me it was the best show yet so the committee's hard work has paid off.

"We were a bit worried when it started to rain heavily on Saturday afternoon. There was standing rain on the field and some of the vehicles started to rut a bit but fortunately it stopped and dried off.

"The rain held off all day Sunday and apart from a few dark clouds it was a nice day."

Other attractions included trade stands, military vehicles, vintage commercial lorries and a disco and karaoke on Saturday night.

J H and A J King Farms, which allowed the use of its field for the rally, also loaned argicultural machinery for displays and demonstrations.

David said: "Holbeach Fire Brigade put on a great demonstration. They positioned an articulated lorry on top of a car and showed how they would get someone out after an accident.

"They cut the roof off the car and then Tears Recovery came and took the vehicles away. It was a really good display."

Money raised from the rally will go towards staging next year's event, with any surplus donated to local charities.

David said: "We don't know how much we have raised yet but we are fairly confident there will be some left over for charity."
