Pregnant motorist almost doubled speed limit

A PREGNANT woman kept her licence despite being caught driving at nearly double the speed limit.

Spalding magistrates heard that Donna Strowlger (22) was clocked travelling in a Mini Cooper at 77mph in a 40mph zone on May 1.

Rebecca Ritson, prosecuting, said that when Strowlger was stopped by police she said she thought the B1165 in Whaplode St Catherine was a 60mph zone.

Strowlger appeared in court on Thursday and risked losing her licence, as she already had three points for a similar offence from last August.

But magistrates allowed Strowlger to keep her licence because she is 34 weeks pregnant, and needs her car to attend hospital for check-ups.

Strowlger, of Fishpond Lane, Holbeach, admitted speeding.

She was given six points and fined 150, with 43 costs and a 15 victim surcharge.
