Spalding’s new top job of town centre manager has attracted “a number of positive conversations about the role”.

The £26,000 position was first advertised by Spalding and District Chamber of Trade and Commerce earlier in the month and is open for applications until May 5, with interviews scheduled for May 19.

A spokesman for the Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce said: “We have had a number of positive conversations about the role but so far few formal applications.

“We are not worried as this is what we would expect at this time – most people apply in time for the closing date.”

What is expected of the successful candidate was discussed at the second Spalding Retailers’ Forum. It was agreed the main challenge would be increasing footfall to the town. Spokesman Phil Scarlet said: “There is a recognition that this is a big job with lots of groups wanting to have their say in the role.”

The next forum meeting is at Sainsbury’s Meeting Room on May 14 at 5.45pm.
