Polka Dot starlets are cruising with the Copacabana

POLKA Dot Academy starlets will take their talent to the high seas this weekend when they perform on a luxury cruise ship.

Sixteen dancers and singers aged six to 18 will board the Royal Caribbean's "Independence of the Seas" for a fantastic five-day trip.

The youngsters from the Worldwide Group at the Spalding-based studios will be accompanied by their parents and instructors for the cruise, which will travel from Southampton across the Irish sea to Cork.

The children will be donning their showgirl outfits for a dance spectacular themed on the musical Copacabana, originally written and performed by Barry Manilow.

And when they are not performing they'll enjoy using the wealth of entertainment facilities including the surf machines ice-rink on the mammoth ship.

The event was organised by travel counsellor Elaine Barron-Clarke, who spoke to parents back in October for suggestions on possible destinations before contacting Royal Caribbean.

Her children Olivia (9) and Lily (6) will be among those on-stage and she said: "Every year they plan to go somewhere different.

"Last year they performed in Disneyland Paris which was amazing, but this year it will be something else.

"They will do one show on Tuesday in a theatre which holds about 3,000 people, so to perform there is quite an amazing feat. For some of them it's a lifelong dream."
