Police name woman killed in Spalding level crossing crash

The woman killed when her car was hit by a train on a level crossing near Spalding has been named as Moira Koune.

Miss Koune, of Welbeck Drive, Spalding, was a teaching assistant at Cowbit Primary School.

Her Rover car was hit by a train on the level crossing at West Road, near Spalding, yesterday morning.

Police believe Miss Koune's car ended up on the track after a minor collision with a van in icy conditions just before 9am.

The barriers came down and she frantically tried to move her car but it was hit by the Peterborough to Spalding train.

Miss Koune was thrown from the car and died at the scene.
