Plea for speed cut after three hurt in crash

A mum-of-two cut free from the wreckage of her car yards from her home is launching an e-petition to slash the speed limit on the A52 at Donington.

Michelle Maddison (34) had just returned from the school run at 9.10am on Monday and was waiting to turn right into her drive on Bicker Road when she says a car hit her from behind and shoved her into the path of an oncoming car.

Firefighters cut the roof off her car and placed her on a spinal injuries board before she was taken to hospital.

Police say the other two drivers also went to hospital with bruising and were allowed home.

Neighbours have had a long running campaign to cut the speed limit from 60mph to 40mph after numerous crashes.

Michelle (34) said: “On Monday night, my other half and I were looking for houses for sale in the village and I was planning never to drive again.

“I don’t blame anyone because it was a freak accident. It was just the wrong place at the wrong time and it could have happened to anyone.”

Her younger daughter was unwell that morning and Michelle is thanking her lucky stars that Sophie (6) remained at school rather than returning home with her in the car.
