Plan for more quarrying
Around 30,000 tonnes of sand and gravel could be extracted from a quarry extension in Baston.
The work at the existing Baston number 1 quarry in Outgang Road could be carried out over a six-month period before the area is restored to a lake if planning permission is granted by Lincolnshire County Council’s planning and regulation committee when it meets next Monday.
It is hoped the site would eventually become an important wetland area for various species of wildlife.
Members of the committee will be recommended to approve the plan, which would see extraction work carried out only between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday.
It would result in 44 lorry movements per day, which is a continuation of the existing level of movements associated with the quarry.
But a strong objection has been raised by a resident living near to the site, on the grounds of noise, dust, traffic and inconvenience.
Baston Environment Group has raised no objection, but requested a Section 106 agreement for the provision of a small area to be set aside for a wildlife-watching “hide”.
