Onion spillage shuts A17 for nearly three hours

UPDATE TUESDAY 5PM: The A17 near Long Sutton became a vegetable patch after a lorry shed its load of onions after it collided with another vehicle.

A Ford Ranger 4x4 pick-up collided with a lorry carrying a trailer full of onions about 600 yards from Gedney Roundabout at about 12.15pm yesterday.
Police closed the road for almost three hours at its junction with Cowper’s Gate and Main Road while a recovery team swept up three crates of onions that spilled onto the road.
There were no injuries and the road was reopened shortly before 3pm.

MONDAY 2PM: A lorry has shed its load of onions after a crash on the A17 near Long Sutton.

It happened in North Street, about 600 yards from the Gedney Roundabout, where a Ford Ranger 4x4 pick-up vehicle and a lorry carrying a trailer full of onions collided at about 12.15pm.

The trailer overturned onto grass, spilling onions onto the road, and a recovery operation is currently in progress.

Police have closed the A17 in both directions at the junction of Station Road, Main Road and Cowper’s Gate where diversions are in place.
