OAP ‘devastated’ at dog mess on grave

AN ELDERLY woman was “devastated” to discover that a dog owner had allowed their pet to defecate on her family’s grave.

The woman, who doesn’t want to be named, was upset and angry when a friend who had visited Spalding cemetery told her what had happened.

She said: “I’ve haven’t stopped crying over it.

“It’s disgusting and has really upset me.

“My mother, husband and son are all buried there and to think that someone has let their dog do that to my family’s final resting place is devastating.”

The woman, who is 79 and lives in Spalding, is disabled and unable to get to the cemetery regularly.

She said: “I rely on my son to tend to the grave for me but he lives away so it won’t be cleaned up until his next visit.

“I’m so angry and hurt by it. If people take their dogs in there they should be kept on a lead and they should be cleaning up after them.”

A spokesman for South Holland District Council, which has responsibility for the cemetery, said: “Although there is no specific restriction on dogs being allowed in Spalding Cemetery, we would insist owners kept their animals on a lead.

“Owners who are identified failing to clean up after their pets are liable to face a fixed penalty fine.

“We will consider placing appropriate signage at the cemetery to remind dog owners of their responsibilities.”

It seems that any nice area of grass or beach for that matter is fair game for a dogs toilet these days, those that do pick it up more often that not just chuck the bag in the nearest handy hedgerow or tree or overflowing litter bin. People should let their filthy mutts cr*p in their OWN back yards.

No peekachoo, I dont hate dogs at all, I hate the irresponsible owners of any pets! Other people should not have to suffer the consequences and indeed in many cases the animals shouldnt have to eitherr. We all know dogs can be dangerous but i do realise responsible owners are aware of this and minimise the risks and annoyance to the general public.

Marshy, you really hate dogs don't you. I agree with most of the comments. Dog owners should be held responsible for their dogs. They should be fined for not clearing up after them. I have a dog and always carry plenty of poo bags with me. If I saw another dog owner not clearing up after their pet, I would say something. It is discusting if you stand in it. The poo bags I use are extremely cheap so there is no excuse. On another note, i would not take my dog to the cemetary in the first place!

It doesn't take two mins to pick it up I hate it you either tread in it and then get it in your house it does my head in. People with dogs should pick it up it's as bad as chewing gum.

I have said it before in comments, it is time inconsiderste morons where benned from keeping potentially dangerous animals that cause a public nuisance! If it was however a stry dog then that should be considered as vermin and shot!

i thought there was a sign saying no dogs allowed. But saying that there is a speed limit down there but not many people abide with that either( SOME PEOPLE HAVE NO RESPECT FOR OTHERS)

Hopefully this was a stray dog wandering in the cemetery rather than a wilful act on the part of an owner. This would seem entirely probable.

If I'd been that friend, I would've cleared it up and said nothing to my friend knowing how upset she'd be. I would have reported it to the council though.
