Number crunching skills put to the test

Talented young mathematicians put their skills to the test in an inter-school challenge.

Six schools were involved in the competition at William Stukeley Primary School in Holbeach, which is held three times a year.

A team from South View Primary School in Crowland took the honours, beating off pupils from schools including Moulton Chapel and Whaplode.

The year five and six pupils took on puzzles including problem-solving, logic and estimation, before a quick-fire round of mental arithmetic.

William Stukeley Primary School teacher Louise West said: "It's good for year five and six pupils because they are used to being at the top of the set at their schools and this gives them a challenge."
