No room at the ‘inn’ is cue for Christmas baby

Santa couldn’t have delivered a better gift when Spalding’s Christmas baby was born 15 days later than expected.

But the December 25 arrival of nine pound one ounce Leyton James Lewis Courtman was no surprise to his step-grandad Chris Loveridge.

When mum Grace Adams (22) was admitted to Peterborough Hospital on Sunday, December 23, to have her baby he knew there was no rush.

Grandma Tracie Loveridge said: “There wasn’t a bed in the delivery ward so Chris said it was like there being no room at the inn.

“He told us from the start not to worry about turkey on Christmas Day because we’d be in hospital.”

With a little help from doctors, Leyton finally arrived at 1pm - the second baby to be born in the hospital on Christmas Day.

Mum Grace and her fiancee, Arron Courtman (21), are overjoyed. Grace said: “We never expected this. It’s been the best gift we could have had.

Grace’s big brother, Lewis (28) - a PE teacher from London, is going to be Leyton’s godfather.

Lewis was at the hospital for the birth and took Leyton’s first gift - a pair of Converse boots. He said: “All the cool kids in Westside wear them, so I bought a pair for the baby.”

Because Grace suffered complications after the birth, she stayed the night in hospital before returning to the family home in Sorrel Drive on Boxing Day for Christmas dinner.
