New teachers needed for vocational studies
Teachers of hairdressing and plumbing are wanted as a Holbeach school prepares itself for the introduction of new vocational study options.
The George Farmer Technology and Language College, in Park Road, has advertised nine positions, six of which will primarily teach in the school's new 2.8million sixth form centre, which is due to be finished in May and opened in September.
Positions include teachers of motor vehicle studies, hairdressing or beauty therapy, pipework (plumbing), electrical installations and business studies as the school looks to offer vocational alternatives under the new Government curriculum.
Other vocational subjects to be introduced and available to students between years ten and 13 include health and social care, child care, construction, uniform public services and Btec national science.
The school was identified as a high performing specialist school and was successful in gaining vocational status in 2006, providing extra Government funding and allowing the school to build a state-of-the-art sixth form centre.
A total of 4million has been spent on the school in the last couple of years and it is this improvement which has generated massive interest from prospective students.
Headteacher Steve Baragwanath said: "We have already had about 100 letters of interest in the centre and new courses and I think we've had 50 acceptances for 90 places.
"The jobs on offer are exciting opportunities and we are looking to get staff in as soon as possible.
"We are part of an excellent partnership with South Holland schools as well as further education colleges in Stamford and Boston and the University of Lincoln which has really opened up the chances for students to access different courses throughout the area."
Assistant headteacher Maggie Ward added: "The new centre is a great opportunity for students throughout the area to access our courses and our vocational subjects enable us to offer a much broader curriculum to students."
Positions for a science teacher and maths teacher are also on offer which Mr Baragwanath says would free current teachers to teach lessons in the new sixth form centre. The school is also looking for a new head of humanities.
Closing date for applications is March 31.
