New strike at Cross Keys Bridge

Workers at Cross Keys Bridge, Sutton Bridge, will walk out on strike at 6am on Monday until 6am on Wednesday, April 3.
Three county council employees are locked in a dispute with bosses, claiming new terms and conditions will give them a massive pay cut.

The men only returned to work on Sunday after a seven day strike.

County council assistant director of highways Paul Coathup said: “Our contingency plans will come into effect again so we do not expect there to be much disruption to the public.

“The bridge will generally remain open to road traffic, but we are working closely with the two port authorities and fully expect to be able to accommodate river traffic too. There may be some inconvenience for leisure boats travelling through, but we will work hard to keep this to a minimum.”

During the last strike, the bridge was manned by senior county council highways managers and a contractor who was already working on the bridge.

There was no disruption reported for the A17, which carries an estimated 17,000 vehicles over the bridge every day.
