New faces enjoy maze fun

Poor weather was to blame for a drop in the number of visitors to a charity weekend at Whaplode's Maze in Maize.

A bouncy castle, go-kart rides, face painting and a barbecue were just some of the attractions.

This year's maze has been created on an Egyptian theme in Sholtsgate and the bank holiday weekend's events were held in aid of SANDS (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society).

Owner Lance Whittington said poor weather, particularly on Sunday morning, meant that numbers were a few hundred down on last year's attendance.

He said: "Monday was a good day and we hit our targets but Sunday was a bit of a washout.

"We had about 630 people visiting over the weekend, which is less than last year.

"Having said that, everybody who came thoroughly enjoyed themselves and we saw a lot of new faces but we had hoped more of those who had enjoyed the maze in previous years would attend."

The maze will continue to be open each day until the start of the school term, after which it will be open at weekends until the end of September.
