‘New chapter’ for troubled youth club
Trustees of a troubled village youth club are hoping to find a way forward after a turbulent couple of months.
Gosberton Youth Club closed its doors earlier this year after a falling out with Rainbows Playgroup which shared the hall.
But an extraordinary meeting of the youth club is planned for tonight, followed by the annual general meeting at which trustees will be appointed or re-appointed.
The Rev Ian Walters, who is one of the trustees, said: “It is vitally important that the youth club can open again as soon as possible.
“It has performed a valuable service in the community for many years and will continue to do so.
“A number of misunderstandings have arisen about the club, and it is important that the whole community – especially the young people and their families – have a clear picture not just of past events but of developing plans for the future.
“We hope this will be the beginning of a new and exciting chapter but a lot of work will need to be done.
“We shall especially be needing the support of people willing and qualified to help with making this the best youth club in the area.”
Everyone is invited to attend the meeting, which starts at 8pm in the youth club building, but space will be limited
Problems between the youth club and Rainbows started when the playgroup declined to sign a new contract until minor refurbishment work was carried out at the hall.
It then found itself locked out, throwing the group’s future into doubt.
Steps were taken and the playgroup was allowed back, but soon afterwards the youth club closed its doors.
