Name and shame the graffiti gangs
Three gangs of graffiti artists are blighting Spalding town centre, leaving taxpayers with a clean-up bill running into thousands of pounds.
Reports of graffiti in the town are on the increase and residents are being urged to be vigilant and report any incidents to the police or South Holland District Council.
Public buildings, private homes, bridges, walls, doors and bus shelters are among the surfaces which have been plastered with mindless graffiti in recent weeks.
Spalding Railway Station, in Station Approach, and the Castle Sports Complex are also prime targets for spray artists.
Insp Tony Smith, of Spalding Police, said incidents of graffiti are rising and he said people must know who is responsible.
He said: "The district council is very good at cleaning the graffiti off but it does tend to be in different places.
"Removing graffiti does cost the public purse.
"It costs the owners of private property and it does not look very nice.
"People must be selling these spray cans and people must hear graffiti artists bragging about it.
"Any information that would help should be passed on."
Graffiti is a form of criminal damage, the punishment for which can range from a fixed penalty notice to fines of thousands of pounds or a prison sentence.
Last year a 21-year-old Spalding man was ordered by magistrates to pay 662.50 to clean up his graffiti.
Anyone with information about who is responsible for the latest graffiti should call police on 01775 722233.
