Mum’s speed limit campaign takes off

A mum’s speed limit campaign is taking off with more than 100 people backing her online petition.

Mum of two Michelle Maddison (34) says she was hit from behind and catapulted into the path of an oncoming car while waiting in her car to turn right into her drive on Bicker Road, Donington.

She’s now calling for the 60mph limit to be slashed to 40mph.

Michelle said two district councillors are supporting the campaign and Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership will be helping by gathering data on the road next month.

She said information collected will help assess the “speed and safety of this stretch of road”.

Michelle was one of three drivers taken to hospital following the accident just yards from her front door last month.

Firefighters cut Michelle free from the wreckage of her car.

A neighbour who helped at the scene has also previously gone to the rescue of two other drivers who landed in the ditch outside his house.

Michelle said: “We need to do something as the road and its current speed is dangerous and is another accident waiting to happen.”

Paper petitions are also available at the Post Offices in Donington and Bicker.

Michelle has thanked all supporters who have signed so far but is urging others to back the campaign by signing online or at the Post Offices.
