To a great friend and mentor, you go through life and meet many people, some pass you by, others leave a profound effect on you and their presence is enough to know that you have met someone truly remarkable. Jim was one such man, with an uncanny ability to have the common touch, but retain a vision which would always include those who worked with him, and to be at his best swapping stories of how they had thrown off potatoes at the markets in London, or shared tea at a stand in Coventry. He was what you saw, no airs or graces, a man with an appetite for work and an even bigger one for his family.

God rest you Jim, I have lost a true friend, even though I was just an old boy who earned 10 bob a week loading lorries at Machin`s yard in Surfleet, to be hung upside down and left for 10 minutes because I was a cheeky bugger!! I hope St.Peter has his delivery note in order, otherwise he is in trouble!!!!

My first memory of Jim, is standing in the Bell, at Pinchbeck, with him trying to get a signal on his mobile phone. The year was 1988, and the phone was like a brick!

He will be sorely missed.
